Statment of Intent

Magazine statement of Intent

Product 1 (Fashion Magazine)
My magazine will be targeting sophisticated 16-25 year olds, the majority of which will be of a male demographic. To appeal to the sophisticated audience, I will be drawing attention to the art form of fashion and photography. My audience research has revealed that using a model of the same age, would be received very well. This is because the demographic prefer an instant visual of the fashion I have covered. By using a younger model the readership will be able to connect with the magazine better: be able to relate with the models. However, the audience research also concluded that sometimes using an older, celebrity model would also be successful as an icon. While focusing on fashion and style, I will also address ideologically based issues that my audience have identified as ‘concerns’. My magazine will mostly address domestic issues, issues that are confined to the country, this helps the magazine to stay relevant and to engage a domestic audience, without having to align the magazine ideologically. The mise en scene of the covers will vary depending on the featured article or the time of year, rather than stereotypes of gender. Rather than focusing on issues of gender, the magazine will focus on issues of class. Helping to contrast and deconstruct stereotypes and pluralistic ideas of upper suburban life and lower city life. The nature ‘issue’ will feature throughout the magazine, either through the front cover will images of the models surrounded by nature, or subtly through use of outdoor spaces. We are creating this for ‘Bauer Media Group’, who do not produce a magazine similar to this, so I will be adding to their portfolio and targeting a younger audience than is currently within their fashion demographic.

Product 2 (Accompanying Website)
My website will be designed and intended to act as a supporting media product for the magazine that will advertise the magazine to some extent whilst also including additional content exclusive to online readers. On my website I plan to have the Issues on a different page. This will keep the structure of the website strong and follows conventions of other fashion websites. Other features of my website include an exclusive gallery of extra photos that are not included in the magazine, These photos will include behind the scenes pictures of the backdrop/ layout of the featured photos, unedited pictures and other unused pictures . The website will also include individual pages for each edition of the magazine, describing their focus and contents. There will be a clear mission statement, which will feature at the top of the homepage as a way to connect audience with intent. There will also be a social media connection on the website as well as a private question email to encourage readership feedback.

How do you intend to link your media products to demonstrate your knowledge and understanding of the digitally convergent nature of your media production? (approx. 100 words)

The most notable connections between the virtual product and the print product, are the masthead which will feature at the top of the page at both; And the colour scheme which is routine throughout, which some small changes between the tercentenary colours. The font of both the headings and the bodies on the website also is the same as the font on the magazine to keep the same aesthetic. Photos as well, of the models will feature both on the magazine as well as the website.

As stated in the brief, the magazine will contain a social media element to the magazine and this is to improve readership relations and also to provide a platform for advertising and feedback from products.
